7 Days Diving in The Galápagos: FAQs

  • Is this 7-day Galápagos diving tour suitable for beginner divers?

No. This itinerary is designed for certified divers. Some dive sites may feature currents or deeper water, so an Open Water certification and recent diving experience are recommended.

  • What marine wildlife can I expect to see while diving?

Expect encounters with hammerhead sharks, reef sharks, sea turtles, eagle rays, sea lions, schools of tropical fish, and, depending on conditions, manta rays and other pelagic species.

  • How many dives are included in this Galápagos diving tour?

The tour includes four full dive days with two guided dives each — eight dives in total: two at Kicker Rock off San Cristóbal and six at sites around Santa Cruz.

  • Where will I stay during the tour?

You’ll stay in comfortable local hotels on San Cristóbal and Santa Cruz Islands, with all dive logistics, transfers, and accommodations arranged for a seamless experience.

  • Is this tour only about diving?

No. Along with daily dives, you’ll have free time to explore Puerto Ayora and Puerto Baquerizo Moreno, visit beaches, enjoy local restaurants, and experience the Galápagos above the water as well.

  • Where can you see hammerhead sharks in the Galápagos?

Kicker Rock off San Cristóbal and Gordon Rocks off Santa Cruz are the two most reliable day-trip sites. Sightings peak from June to November when the water is cooler.

  • How many logged dives do I need for the Galápagos?

Twenty-five and an advanced certification for Gordon Rocks. Kicker Rock, Seymour and Mosquera accept Open Water divers with recent experience and a good air consumption record. Get the open water certification with our Galápagos PADI course.

  • Is land-based diving as good as a Galápagos liveaboard?

For the central and eastern sites, yes. Liveaboards are the only way to reach Darwin and Wolf in the far north, which day boats cannot legally or practically serve.

  • What water temperature should I expect diving here?

Between 18 and 24 degrees Celsius. A 5mm wetsuit works from December to May; from June to November the Humboldt current drops temperatures and a 7mm is better.
