DAY 1 ARRIVAL TO TAMBOPATA NATIONAL RESERVE
Upon arrival from Lima or Cusco, you will be welcomed at the airport, and taken to our Puerto Maldonado headquarters in just 10 minutes. After packing only your necessary gear for the coming days, we will drive 20 kilometers to the Tambopata River Port. From here, you will go by boat to the lodge. During the boat transfer, you will pass the Community of Infierno and the Tambopata National Reserve’s checkpoint. You will have the option of hiking out at night.

DAY 2 CHUNCHO CLAY LICK – TAMBOPATA RESEARCH CENTER
The boat transfer to the Tambopata Research Center will take about four and a half hours. After the first hour and a half, as we cross the confluence with the Malinowski River, we will leave the final traces of the human population behind. After two hours from Refugio Amazonas, we will stop at the Chuncho clay lick. Here, you will have the chance to see dozens of large macaws feeding on the special sodium-rich clays of the riverbank. After this, we will continue with the ride. Upon arrival, the lodge manager will welcome you and brief you with important navigation and security tips. Afterwards, you will hike to the Overlook Trail, and enjoy the rich nature of the rainforest.

DAY 3 MACAW CLAY LICK – FOREST HIKE – POND PLATFORM – NIGHTWALK
Early in the morning, you will go to the Macaw Clay lick. At dawn, it is possible to see dozens of macaws and hundreds of parrots feeding themselves on the clay lick at the riverbank. After breakfast, you will walk down the Floodplain Trail. During this five-kilometer trail, and with some luck, you will find Squirrels, Brown Capuchin Monkeys, and Spider Monkeys, as well as Peccaries. After lunch, you will go to the Pond Platform. This platform in the middle of the river is a great place to spot ducks, sunbitterns, hoatzins, woodpeckers, oropendolas, flycatchers, and parakeets. After dinner, you will go out for a hike to find nocturnal animals, which are most active in the dark.

DAY 4 MACAW CLAY LICK -TERRA FIRME TRAIL – PALM SWAMP TRAIL
Early in the morning, you will go to the Macaw Clay lick. At dawn, it is possible to see dozens of macaws and hundreds of parrots feeding themselves on the clay lick at the riverbank. After breakfast, you will walk the Terra Firme Trail. The landscapes you will see on this trail are very different from other parts of the rainforest. During the trail, you can look for Saddleback tamarins and rare tapir tracks. After lunch, you will do the Palm Swamp Trail. Here, you will learn more about the important plants and food sources available in this region of the rainforest.

DAY 5 TRANSFER OUT
