  • DAY 1 COTOPAXI NATIONAL PARK

    To start this 2-Day Horseback Riding Cotopaxi Tour, you will be picked up at your selected hotel in Quito and begin driving to Hacienda el Porvenir through the Avenue of the Volcanoes. Upon arrival at Hacienda El Porvenir, a warm welcome will introduce you to the hacienda’s facilities. Get acquainted with the chagra dress, the typical attire of Andean horsemen.

    Participate in a brief riding lesson to familiarize yourself with the horses and riding techniques. Get your horses ready for the journey ahead.

    Traverse the slopes of the Rumiñahui Volcano, following exclusive paths inside the hacienda. Admire the breathtaking Andean panoramas, witnessing herds of wild bulls, diverse bird species, and stunning landscapes. Reach a scenic viewpoint near the rocky peaks of Rumiñahui, where, on a clear day, you can behold the majestic sight of 12 more volcanoes in the distance. Initially, the ride will be at a walking pace, allowing you to get comfortable with your horse and the terrain. As you progress, there will be opportunities to pick up the pace, either trotting or cantering.

    Reach the base of the Central Summit of Rumiñahui and take a break. Enjoy a hot drink, savoring the warmth and energy it provides during the ride. Keep an eye out for Andean birds, herds of wild horses, and magnificent wild bravo cattle.

  • If you would like to enter the Cotopaxi National Park (for example, to visit Limpiopungo or the Cotopaxi Refugio, or to stop underway to take pictures), you are required to rent the services of a local guide. The cost is USD 40.
