    A.M.: Lobos Island was named after the two species of sea lions that inhabit it, those related to the California sea lions, and those related to the ones in Antarctica. Explore the island’s protected channel, offering fantastic snorkeling opportunities in its pristine waters. A nesting colony of blue-footed boobies comes to Lobos each year to raise their chicks.

    P.M.: Pitt Point, is at the far eastern edge of San Cristobal. Following a wet landing directly onto the beach you’ll be welcomed by the friendly and noisy barking of the local colony of Galápagos Sea Lions! This is actually a bachelor colony of males who haven’t held a breeding territory, and they can sometimes be the worse for wear if they have been fighting on one of the breeding beaches elsewhere.

    A.M.: You’ll start your Santa Fe tour on the white beach where sea lions are usually seen resting. This island is home to the endemic species of land iguana, larger and yellower than land iguanas on other islands. The largest prickly pear cacti in the Galapagos are also found here.

    P.M.: Colorful Plaza Sur is home to vibrant green prickly pears, deep red Sesuvium, and coppery-orange land iguanas. A variety of coastal birds make their home at the impressive seaward cliffs. This is also a great place to observe the adult and pup sea lions swimming along the shores.

This unique site is lined with red mangrove and soft-haired prickly pear cacti where red-footed boobies and great frigatebirds perch tamely.

    P.M.: Prince Philip’s Steps, also known as El Barranco, is a popular visitor site where tropicbirdsred-footed boobies, and other nesting seabirds can be found. We walk up a cliff through a Palo Santo forest to a storm petrel colony, passing red-footed and Nazca boobies and great frigatebirds along the way.

    A.M.: On Santiago Island’s eastern coast sits Sullivan Bay. Take a walk along Pahoehoe lava (approximately 1 hour), which was created by an eruption that occurred here in 1897. With some luck, you might see some marine iguanas, Sally Lightfoot crabs, sea lions, finches, turtles, sharks, and penguins. During your walk, as always, your naturalist guide will take you through the geological history of the island.

    P.M.: Experience deepwater snorkeling during a visit to Bartolomé Island, involving a dry landing and a nature walk. Despite its desolate landscape with sparse vegetation, Bartolomé is the most visited and photographed island in the Galapagos. The island features an extinct volcano and a stunning array of red, orange, green, and glistening black volcanic formations, with the iconic tuff cone known as Pinnacle Rock as its standout feature.

Deepwater snorkeling adds a marine dimension to this historical journey.

    P.M.: Head to Egas Port, a black-sand beach on the west side of James Bay, northwest of Santiago Island. It’s home to some amazing volcanic tuff formations. Take a stroll along the beach with the native marine iguanas, pelicans, finches, mockingbirds, oystercatchers, Galapagos sea lions, and Galapagos fur seals. You can see the amazing tidal pools, formed from ancient lava flow, providing a home for sponges, snails, hermit crabs, barnacles, and fish.
