This Amazon Cuyabeno Tour program is designed for adventurous travelers who love to experience nature without being disturbed by cell phones or wifi. You will stay at a simple eco-lodge with freshwater, normal toilets, comfortable beds, and a common chill-out place. You will have three meals a day on long tables together with the other guests. Discover the Seoqueya Community and learn about this ancient tribe. Activities during these days vary between wildlife spotting by canoe, hiking, and swimming. Itinerary

DAY 1 ARRIVAL TO CUYABENO – NICKY LODGE
Today, your Amazon Cuyabeno tour begins at the Cuyabeno Bridge, which is the entrance of the Protected Reserve. You will have some time for lunch, and after this, you will go down the river in a motor canoe in the direction of your lodge (approximately 2 hours). Finally, you will arrive at the Nicky Amazon Lodge in the Cuyabeno Reserve. You will have some time to relax, and then, there will be an introductory walk around the lodge. Before dinner, you will go on a night walk to watch different species of animals and insects. After dinner, the bilingual guide will give you a briefing on the upcoming activities for the next few days.

DAY 2 RAINFOREST – CUYABENO RIVER – KAPOK ISLAND
The brisk morning hours are the best time to see the rainforest’s thriving activity. After an early breakfast, you will start your journey. You will trek into the rainforest with your bilingual guide who will share his wide knowledge about the flora and fauna of the region. Then, you will return to the lodge. After lunch, you will navigate along the Cuyabeno River to get to Kapok Island where you might be able to find some species of monkeys. There is also a good chance of seeing freshwater pink dolphins in the Amazon River. Before dinner, you will venture again into the forest to find species of insects, and spiders such as tarantulas, snakes, and colorful frogs. The nighttime in the Amazon is perfect for seeing small animal species and enjoying the nocturnal sounds of the jungle.

DAY 3 SIONA COMMUNITY – LAGUNA GRANDE
An early activity allows you to enjoy nature in a better way and provides a good chance to see some monkeys and birds. After breakfast, you will follow the “taricaya” trail, which means turtle trail, to visit the Siona Community, where some families of the Sionas Indigenous people live. After visiting the community, you will return to the lodge and enjoy a delicious lunch. You will have time to relax and enjoy the place. In the afternoon, you will go upstream by canoe to visit Laguna Grande where you can see the amazing lake and admire the flooded forest. After that, you can swim in the calm waters while watching the spectacular sunset of the Amazon region. Before returning to the lodge, you will venture downstream once more to search for caimans and fishing bats.

DAY 4 CANOE EXCURSION – DEPARTURE
The last activity of this Cuyabeno tour is a short canoe excursion to enjoy the sunrise over the jungle. It will allow you to create the last memory of this wonderful and peaceful place. This is also a good opportunity for bird watching. After breakfast, you will have time to prepare your luggage for the trip back. You will navigate upstream to reach the Cuyabeno Bridge which is where the tour will end. From here, you can take a bus back to Quito on your own.

This 4-day Tour has fixed departure dates every Monday, Tuesday, and Friday. The tour can start any day with 4 or more guests.
The price listed corresponds to the itinerary at Nicky Lodge. Itineraries at Dolphin Lodge and Jamu Lodge (Luxury class) are also available for this tour. If you would like to know more about these options, please contact us.
Prices for 1 guest are based on a single private room, and prices for 2 or more guests are based on double or multiple rooms.
For children under the age of 12, there is a 10% discount.
You can contact us if you want to ask for private transportation.
If you are a single traveler, you can book this tour without paying the single traveler fee if you are willing to share your room with another person of the same gender. You can also choose shared rooms with a maximum of 4 guests same gender. Please contact us for details. Nicky Lodge only works with private rooms, so shared rooms are not available.
Semi-private bus transportation from Quito to the Cuyabeno Bridge can be arranged for $ 30 p.p. one way. It includes one meal (breakfast for arrival or a snack for return). Public transportation for $ 15 p.p. per way is also available.
Flights are not recommended, but if you want to take a flight to Lago Agrio, we recommend taking it one day before your tour starts. We recommend booking the return flight after 3:00 PM on the last day.
Please take with you some plastic bags, to protect your Camera and important documents passports and ID from the rain. Also, a headlight, since it can get very dark during the night.
Some activities in the Amazon depend on weather conditions, such as caiman spotting.
Please bring your rain poncho. In the Amazon, the weather could change suddenly in the rainforest and you might get wet.
If you enjoy watching animals in the Amazon, please get some binoculars (10×40 are much better).
Inform yourself about food safety when traveling to tropical countries. Take the necessary precautions to avoid food poisoning (always wash your hands before eating, don’t eat ‘street food’, only eat peeled fruits, etc.).
