This 14-day Ecuador Andes, Amazon & Coast program is designed for guests who would like to experience Ecuador in a very comfortable way and most importantly off the beaten track. You will stay with a local family, go into the Yasuni Amazon, and discover the beautiful Ecuadorian coast. Part of this 14-day Adventure around the Andes, Amazon, and Coast, is a stay in the Yasuni part of the Amazon where you will find numerous amounts of wildlife. The last part of your stay will be on the Pacific Coast where you will visit Isla de la Plata (“Galapagos for the backpackers”).

DAY 1 Arrive Quito
This is the first day of your Andes, Amazon & Coast Adventure. After you arrive at Quito Airport, you will have a transfer with an English-speaking driver to your hotel in Quito.

DAY 2 Quito City Tour
In the morning, you will be picked up at your hotel to start your Quito city tour. First, you will go to Panecillo Hill with its famous Virgin Mary statue. Then, you will visit the highlights of Quito’s Old Town, like the Basilica church, the San Francisco church, and the beautiful main squares and plazas. After a typical Ecuadorian lunch, you will go to the Intiñan Museum, located in the Middle of the World. Here, you can do experiments to prove the effects the equator has on gravity. Before going back to Quito, you will also visit the Pululahua crater.

DAY 3 Enter Yasuni National Park
Today, your Amazon adventure starts! You will fly from Quito to Coca (30 minutes), and from there, you will take a motorized canoe over the Napo River for about 2 hours. After that, you will have a 30-minute walk before arriving at the lodge. You will arrive at the lodge at Yasuni National Park at around 4:00 PM, and you will have time to swim, relax, or explore and walk around. After dinner, you will have a night walk to discover the nocturnal life in the rainforest.

DAY 4 Yasuni Forest Experience
Early in the morning, you will start your first activity. The early morning hours are the best for birdwatching in the Amazon. After this, you will have a breakfast buffet. Then, you will have some time to relax in the lake pool or visit the butterfly house. In the afternoon, there are different activities you can choose to do; you can go on a Canopy walk, the Kapok tower, paddling in the creek, forest hiking, or even more birdwatching. Later at night, you will have dinner in the restaurant where you can choose your food a la carte. Finally, to finish the day, there will be a hike where you can experience the fascinating sounds of the rainforest at night.

DAY 5 EXPLORING YASUNI NATIONAL PARK
Today you will have more optional activities to discover the flora and fauna of the Yasuni National Park. Additionally, you can take the day to relax and use the lodge facilities.

DAY 6 RETURN TO QUITO
You will have an early breakfast, and then, you will check out from the lodge at 7:30 AM. You will go for an easy walk on the boardwalk to watch Monkeys one last time before your departure to Coca. From Coca Airport, it will take about 40 minutes before your plane arrives in Quito. The scheduled arrival at Quito’s Airport is at 12:30 PM. You will be picked up by your English-speaking guide.

DAY 7 Otavalo Cultural Day
On this day, your guide will pick you up at your hotel to go to Condor Park, located north of Quito. Here, you will learn a lot about the birds of the region and watch them in action in an exhibition. After that, you will go to the Otavalo, where you can walk through its popular market while you enjoy the local people and the typical Ecuadorian products that they sell. After this activity, you will be dropped off at the La Calera Kichwa community near Cotocachi, where you will stay with a local family.
* Keep in mind that Condor Park is not Open: on Mondays and Tuesdays.

DAY 8 Hacienda Piman Experience
In the morning, you will experience the life of the locals in La Calera. You will help a family with the cooking, and you will experience how they work on the land. You will also get to experience some traditions of the Kichwa culture. Additionally, you will learn the medical uses of the plants they utilize. After lunch, you will be brought to Hacienda Piman where you can learn about their history and enjoy nature in just one cozy place.

DAY 9 MINDO CLOUD FOREST
After breakfast, you will go by private transport to Mindo, located deep in the cloud forest at 1400 meters of altitude. Here, you can do many different adventurous activities including hiking across waterfalls, zip-lining, canoeing, biking, visiting a butterfly and flower farm, or going to the famous chocolate factory. After enjoying a local lunch, you can continue enjoying the activities you picked.

DAY 10 MINDO – PUERTO LOPEZ
Today, you will have some more time to discover Mindo and enjoy other optional activities around the town. In the afternoon, you will drive to Puerto Lopez, located on the coast, which will take about 8 hours.

DAY 11 ISLA DE LA PLATA
From Puerto Lopez, you will go by boat, for about 1,5 hours, to Isla de la Plata. During the summer months (from June to August) you will have the incredible chance to see humpback whales near the coast. Upon arrival on Isla de Plata, you will do a hike and spot the different birds that inhabit Isla de la Plata. After this, you will get a box lunch on board, and you can prepare yourself for an optional snorkeling activity. You will be back in Puerto Lopez at approximately 5:00 PM.

DAY 12 PUERTO LOPEZ

- Keep in mind that the weather at 13,000 ft (4,000 m) can change suddenly from sunny to cold with stormy winds and wet snow.
- Since you will ride on steep mountain trails where oxygen is limited, it is our safety recommendation that the rider weighs 220 lbs (100 kg) or less.
- Inform yourself about food safety when traveling to tropical countries. Take the necessary precautions to avoid food poisoning (always wash your hands before eating, don’t eat street food, only eat peeled fruits, etc.).
- It is mandatory to have valid travel and medical insurance. Please inform us of any known medical conditions you have.
- Rebecca Adventure Travel and the respective cruise operator reserve the right to change the itinerary without prior notice due to weather conditions, availability, National Park regulations or notifications, and unforeseeable circumstances.
- If you would like to enter the Cotopaxi National Park (for example, to visit Limpiopungo or the Cotopaxi Refugio, or to stop underway to take pictures), you are required to rent the services of a local guide. The cost is USD 40.
