It is a country of impossible landscapes: salt flats that mirror the sky, glaciers calving into turquoise lakes, vineyards nestled between snow-capped peaks, and fjords so remote they feel undiscovered.

How Do I Get to Chile?

Chile’s main international gateway is Santiago’s Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport (SCL), with direct flights from Miami, New York, Dallas, Atlanta, Madrid, Paris, Auckland, and Sydney — making Chile one of South America’s most accessible destinations from both hemispheres.

From Santiago, domestic flights reach Calama (CJC) for Atacama in 2 hours, Puerto Montt (PMC) for the Lake District in 1 hour 40 minutes, and Punta Arenas (PUQ) for Patagonia in 3 hours 30 minutes. LATAM, Sky Airline, and JetSMART offer frequent domestic routes.

What Are Chile’s Most Important Regions?

  • Atacama Desert: The driest desert on Earth, where salt flats stretch to the horizon, geysers erupt at dawn, and the night sky reveals more stars than anywhere else on the planet. A surreal, otherworldly landscape anchored by the oasis town of San Pedro de Atacama.
  • Central Valley & Wine Country: Santiago sits in the heart of Chile’s wine-producing valleys — Maipo, Colchagua, Casablanca, and the Aconcagua Valley. World-class Carmenère, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Pinot Noir vineyards backed by snowcapped Andes create one of the planet’s most scenic wine regions.
  • Lake District: A landscape of emerald lakes, snow-capped volcanoes, and dense Valdivian temperate rainforest, often compared to Switzerland but wilder. Towns like Pucón and Puerto Varas serve as bases for hiking, kayaking, hot springs, and Mapuche cultural experiences.
  • Patagonia & Torres del Paine: Torres del Paine National Park is widely regarded as one of the world’s greatest trekking destinations. Granite towers, glaciers calving into turquoise lakes, guanaco herds, and condors soaring above — this is the end of the world, and it is magnificent.

What Are Chile’s Most Important Cities?

Santiago

Chile’s cosmopolitan capital nestled between the Andes and the coastal range. A city of world-class restaurants, vibrant street art in Barrio Italia and Lastarria, the bohemian port of Valparaíso just 90 minutes away, and day-trip wine valleys on its doorstep.

Valparaíso

A UNESCO World Heritage port city tumbling down 42 hillsides to the Pacific. Famous for its colorful street art, funicular elevators (ascensores), Pablo Neruda’s La Sebastiana house, and a creative energy that makes it Chile’s cultural heart.

San Pedro de Atacama

A dusty, adobe oasis at 2,400 meters in the heart of the Atacama. The base for Valle de la Luna sunset treks, El Tatio geyser sunrise excursions, flamingo-filled salt flats, and some of the world’s best stargazing.

Punta Arenas & Puerto Natales

Gateway cities to Patagonia and Torres del Paine. Punta Arenas overlooks the Strait of Magellan, while Puerto Natales — a small, colorful town — is the last stop before entering the park. Both offer excellent local seafood and a frontier atmosphere.

When Is the Best Time to Visit Chile?

Chile’s enormous length means no single “best time” applies to the whole country. The Atacama is a year-round destination with clear skies nearly every day. Central Chile and wine country are best in the Southern Hemisphere spring and autumn (September–November and March–May). Patagonia’s trekking season runs October through March, with the longest daylight in December–January.

The key principle: Chile’s seasons are reversed from the Northern Hemisphere. December–February is summer; June–August is winter. Ski season in the Andes runs June through September.

Why Visit Chile?

The Most Dramatic Landscapes in the Americas

No country on Earth compresses so many extreme landscapes into a single border. In Chile you can drive from the driest desert on the planet to ancient glaciers, crossing volcanoes, vineyards, temperate rainforests, and fjords along the way. Torres del Paine alone justifies a trip to South America — and it’s just one park in a country with 42 national parks.

World-Class Wine, Adventure & Stargazing

Chile’s wine valleys produce some of the Southern Hemisphere’s finest wines, with Carmenère as its signature grape. The Atacama’s skies are the clearest on Earth — home to the world’s most powerful telescopes. And from Patagonia trekking to Lake District kayaking to Andes skiing, Chile is an adventure playground at every latitude.

Chile Regions

Chile’s incredible spirit comes alive through its contrasting landscapes, stretching from the world’s driest desert down to the dramatic, icy fjords of the south. You’ll find that every corner of this slender nation offers a completely different soul to uncover. Most of our guests love to weave two or three of these distinct worlds into one seamless journey. Pick a territory below to start your story:
